What's in a name?

What's in a name?

Calling all maritimers! Sociable could be just another word for friendly or a way to describe someone who likes a party but to me and my bluenose roots is the only way to say "Cheers!". It brings back memories from the Lower Deck and every maritime kitchen party I've ever been to.

When I was brainstorming names for The Sociable Stylist, it was important for me to come up with a name that was meaningful to me and ideally paying homage to my Nova Scotia roots. After all, that is where I learned all about hosting parties and celebration styling to begin with. My family home was always the gathering ground for family and friends. Whether it was a holiday or just a Friday night, the kitchen was always full of friends and the food and drinks were always plentiful. I learned how to prepare beautiful spreads, fold napkins into mini sculptures, decorate and make creations out of whatever we had on hand in the craft cupboard.

Fast forward many years and I find myself living in Ontario but I've carried the torch, and continue to show my maritime hospitality any chance I get. We've adapted with the pandemic and occasions are not rooms filled your closest friends and relatives but instead we still decorate and make elaborate desserts for our family of 5 while we sit around the laptop for video calls.

The Sociable Stylist is passion project showcasing the world I've always lived and now gives me even more purpose and reason to continue with the traditions I formed many years ago. So gather round your kitchen and raise a glass - SOCIABLE! - Here we go!
